Well, such a statement could also have been true for cats. Indeed, Tel Aviv’s streets are littered with stray and abandoned cats, looking for food to grab.
But it seems that, for dogs, things are different, as if they were enjoying a full status in the city’s life, as if they were a whole part of Tel Avivi population.
Proof is they even have specific places dedicated to them. Then, a dog-permitted beach stands in the northern part of the Hilton Beach (right in between the beach for religious people and the gay-beach!). This canine beach (called Chof HaClavim in Hebrew) allows dogs to run freely around on the white sand and to splash in the water.
A dogs park also exists in central Tel Aviv: the Gan Meir, a 3 hectares public park bounded by King George and Tchernichovsky streets. There, happy pets’ owners walk their dog, all along with other happy pets’ owners and dogs…
No need to mention the other numerous parks of Tel Aviv filled with those specimens. The Hayarkon Park is one of the most famous (also the bigger), and you’ll see there plenty of dogs running on the lawn and playing with their handlers.
That’s not all (!). The Municipality has installed lots of dedicated equipments: free and self service bags to collect your dog’s needs –and to keep the streets clean…thank goodness!– are displayed all along the streets in town.
You’ll also find many pets shop in the city, offering all you need to pamper your favourite: from dogs candies to dogs clothes, they display everything a dog could ever dream of.
If you are working all day long and you don’t have time to walk the dog –and make him fully happy–, you’ll also be able to find dog-sitters in the city. Yes, you indeed read it properly: dog-sitters! That is it, when you see guys walking 7 dogs in the same time: they take care of your beloved that can stretch his legs a bit. And you’ll see many of them in town…
And what if you don’t find a dog-sitter? No worries, take him with you for a night-out. It can indeed happen that you see in crowded night-bars, nice guys…with their dog! Love has no boundaries…
This list of doggy-situations could be endless. More than being a dog-friendly city, Tel Aviv appears to be a dogs’ heaven...
Weird? Such craziness is actually a good thing. Indeed, it is a perfect way to meet locals.
Since Tel Avivis are fond of their pets, they are really opened to people petting them.
Pet the dog then…and go have a drink with the handler!
Hell yeah, Tel Aviv’s craziness is also beneficial!
